Thoughts About the Midterm

The midterm was extremely frustrating to me because it focused on the application of the theories more than the content of the theories. I think I could have done much better on the midterm if I knew what to expect. I knew the general 'gist' of each theory and what it entailed, but applying the theories was difficult for me without further discussion in a classroom setting. The discussions posts are not as interactive as the classroom and I think I would have benefitted from clarification in each theory. I also believe there was copious amount of information in each theory and I feel this made it difficult as well. It is hard to remember specifics of so many theories without constant review of them. I studied, but I still did not fully understand the theories in full in order to apply them. Many of the terms were similar to terms in other theories so this was confusing. I think it is difficult to sort of 'teach ourselves' all of the information and be tested the same way because we each teach it to ourselves differently. I think if there had been multiple testing reviews, such as quizzes or review questions, it would have been beneficial for each person to do better on the test to further understand what style of test to expect.
I also feel that some questions felt like 'trick questions' and those do not test our knowledge, but confuse students instead. Switching types of theories with the creator of the theory was confusing and made me second-guess myself often in the test. I also found it confusing that the name of the theory and the creator of the theory was interchangeable and would have felt more comfortable if there was more consistency throughout the test.
I think that the wikispace was beneficial in studying for the midterm, but I found it difficult to add extra information because there was already an excessive amount of information. I believe the wikispace would have been more beneficial if it started out as a basic outline and the class would have been able to fill in more information. I think instead of just reading over what is already there, adding it would have us put more thought into the content and this would have assisted us in reviewing the information. To add to the review of the information, I believe that a class held a week or two before the midterm would be beneficial to allow us to ask questions and clarify things that we are unsure of. It would also give the professor a chance to quiz us a bit in review to see where the students are in terms of what they know.
Given another chance, I do believe I could do better now that I know what I should have expected.
