Perfect Theory?

Something I am focused on currently while each of us are writing out explanations of each theory is recognizing the strengths and weakness of each theory. This week I researched the Theory of Work Adjustment and the biggest weaknesses are its complexities, not being applicable to all age groups, and lack of recognition of cultural differences (and this is just to name a few). While responding to other discussion posts it was recognized that a theory is not going to be good for every individual and that there is discretion in what theory to apply to a client in assisting them as a career counselor. I think it would be important to learn how to determine what theory should be applied to a certain individual and how different theories could affect the client. It would be interesting to apply each of these theories to one individual to see if the career option result would be the same. Obviously this would be impossible because the individual would be aware of what was going on and probably decide on the one, but are all of these theories valid and reliable?
If, as a career counselor, I would need to utilize discretion in what theory to apply then there could be many results. If you start working with a client using one theory, but it does not seem to work, can you switch to another theory that might fit that client better? I also wonder if there are career counselors that utilize one theory more than any other and what there reasons are. There seems to be a goal to find a perfect theory that would be applicable to every individual but I feel that this goal is impossible. I am normally not pessimistic, but people are extremely different within the U.S., but once you expand outside of the U.S. those differences increase. To have a theory that could embrace all cultures, genders, ethnicities, etc. would be extremely difficult to create.
I believe a more obtainable goal would be to find multiple theories that suit groups of people extremely well. This would allow a theory to be more specific and assist individuals better. I think the issue with current theories is that they are vague in some regards to embrace more people to fit into the theory. For example, if a theory was focused on a specific culture, it would fit and be more applicable to that group. This would allow for many theories to be valid and reliable and utilized more appropriately. A counselor would not have to use more discretion than necessary to assess what theory would be good to apply to a client. This is a concept that I would further like to discuss and look into because I struggle with the fact that the goal seems to be to find the perfect theory applicable to everyone.
