I would like to use my weekly blog post to discuss my
feelings about the class thus far and the midterm specifically, just as some of my classmates did.
This is only the second blended class I have ever been in.
The first one I was in was just this past summer and we met 4 times out of 6
weeks of classes. I never expected a blended class to have no class time
whatsoever and for everything to be done online as in this class. In the past,
I always had an easy time in school, because I am very good at understanding
concepts and synthesizing the material in my head when it’s been discussed in
class, when questions can be asked, when opinions can be expressed, etc. Since
we have not had any of that for this class, I have tried to learn what I could
using the textbook, articles and assignments. I did also try to use the wiki to
study, but because there was so much information on there, I found it not
particularly helpful but rather overwhelming. As others have mentioned, I was concerned
about the amount of information that we had to know and understand before the midterm.
I found that there were so many theories that they were easy to mix up, that it
is difficult to remember the authors/creators of each theory plus I never
really understood which theories were considered to be under logical
positivism, and was not as well prepared for the test as I would have liked. The
result was a lower score on this test than I have gotten in many years.
As far as using the assignment of adding to the wiki to help
us learn and study, I only found that to be helpful insofar as I reviewed the
theory I had written about for my previous discussion post and went through it
to make sure all salient points were covered on the wiki. Other than that, I
found most of the information to already exist and didn’t find much else to add
substantially. I did find punctuation, spelling and grammar errors that I was
able to correct, but they were minor.
As the remainder of the term plays out, I hope that I will
be better able to understand the theories and the application of them. I am
also hopeful I will be able to figure out what to write for these blog postings.
I haven’t written many of them, primarily because I wind up speechless with
nothing left to say once I have gone through all the requirements of each
discussion post assignment. I will try to find something relevant to this topic
to write every week from here on.
